FeMechanical cutting of heavy and structural scrap

Sheared scrap

Heavy ferrous scrap cut on high-powered shears to standard steelmaking sizes. Metal structures, obsolete industrial machinery, large components: anything that needs mechanical cutting before it goes into a steelworks furnace.

What it is

Definition and industrial context.

Shears are the core equipment for processing heavy scrap: hydraulic machines with 600 to 1,000 tonnes of cutting force. We use them for materials that cannot go straight to the shredder because of their size, density or simple composition.

Industrial process

From incoming material to processed grade.

01

Where the material comes from

We collect structural steel from building sites (beams, sections, lattice work), obsolete industrial machinery, large production offcuts, heavy mechanical components and material from dismantled installations. In short, any ferrous scrap that needs cutting before melting.

02

Industrial processing

Our 600 to 1,000-tonne hydraulic shears cut the material into pieces sized to standard steelmaking dimensions. We also have balers for stamping offcuts, from 300×300 to 400×400. We sort materials before processing and store them separately.

03

Quality control

Visual inspection at the weighbridge to spot residuals or contaminants. Non-metallic material separated beforehand where necessary. Final size checks to make sure the material suits the customer’s melting process.

Industrial applications

Where it’s used.

/ 01

Steelworks (heavy products)

Steel for thick products (HEB beams, large-diameter bar, heavy plate).

/ 02

Grey and ductile iron foundries

Cut foundry scrap as a base charge with residual correction: pistons, blocks and mechanical components.

/ 03

Low-residual steelmaking grades

Grades with controlled residuals for special steels that require chemical purity.

/ 04

Steel scrap exports

Compacted bundles in international standard sizes for shipping by sea.

FAQs

What people ask us most.

The shear handles heavy, structural material by mechanical cutting, producing large pieces cut to steelmaking sizes. Shredded scrap comes from complex material with contaminants, processed in the 4,000 hp shredder into small, dense fragments. They serve different steelmaking applications.

Yes. We sort materials before processing, store them separately and keep plenty of stock of the main grades.

Mainly cut foundry scrap (for grey and ductile iron foundries) and low-residual scrap (for demanding steelworks). Depending on where the material comes from, we can produce other specific grades.

Yes, but we arrange delivery in advance so we can plan immediate cutting or interim storage. For very large structures we can cut on site with mobile equipment before transport.

They are machines that compact stamping offcuts into bundles from 300×300 to 400×400. That way, light material reaches the steelworks as a dense bundle that is easy to charge and melt.
