CuCopper recovered from electrical cable at our own plant

Copper granules

Copper granules are recovered copper in the form of small, uniform particles, produced by the mechanical recycling of electrical cable. They allow precise dosing and even melting in the manufacture of copper alloys and copper products.

What it is

Definition and industrial context.

Once the copper has been separated from the cable’s plastic insulation by chopping and density separation, we obtain copper granules of varying purity. The lower the aluminium, lead, tin or zinc content (measured in ppm), the higher the value of the material and the more demanding its end use: wire-drawing mills, refineries or specialist electrical manufacturers.

Quality control

Quality control at intake, with each grade stored separately, and spectrographic analysis of the copper as part of our production process.

Industrial process

From incoming material to processed grade.

01

Where the material comes from

We take in copper electrical cable of varying copper yields from electrical installations, telecoms, industrial processes and dismantling work. Before it goes on the line we sort it carefully, removing contaminants, aluminium, tinned cable and loose lead.

02

Industrial processing

The cable runs through a complete granulation line: it is chopped into small particles and then density-separated, so that the metallic fraction (copper) comes away from the plastic insulation. The granules are then sized and packed in uniform bulk bags for lot-by-lot traceability.

03

Quality control

We control quality from intake, storing each grade separately, and carry out spectrographic analysis of the copper as part of our production process to classify the material by grade.

Industrial applications

Where it’s used.

/ 01

Wire-drawing mills

Manufacture of new wire and electrical cable from high-purity granules. This is the most demanding application in terms of ppm.

/ 02

Copper refineries

Electrolytic refining, when the granules contain impurities that need further processing to produce cathode copper.

/ 03

Specialist electrical industry

Applications where electrical conductivity and purity are critical: high-precision components and industrial electronics.

/ 04

Secondary remelting

Foundries producing copper alloys (brass, bronze), where the final chemical composition is adjusted.

FAQs

What people ask us most.

Yield is the percentage of copper in a cable relative to its total weight (copper plus plastic insulation). It depends on the type of cable and determines the value we pay the supplier, and we can confirm it by analysing the lot beforehand.

We store each grade separately from intake and carry out spectrographic analysis of the copper as part of the production process. The result classifies the material by grade and sets its market price.

Yes. We set up steady copper supply agreements with our customers, with prices linked to the LME.

We offer both. At spot price, we value the cable directly on its visible characteristics. On actual yield, we process the lot and pay for the copper recovered according to the final analysis. For large lots, the second option is the more transparent.
