AlClean aluminium from windows, doors and metal joinery

Aluminium extrusions

Aluminium extrusions are one of the cleanest and most highly valued fractions of recycled aluminium. They come from architectural aluminium sections (windows, façades, structures) and are sorted by alloy to get the most value from secondary remelting.

What it is

Definition and industrial context.

It is an extruded form of aluminium, valued for its lightness, corrosion resistance and versatility, which make it ideal for construction, automotive and engineering applications. Recycling it returns the material to the production cycle and minimises the need for primary aluminium.

Industrial process

From incoming material to processed grade.

01

Where the material comes from

Comes from stripped-out windows, façades and architectural structures, building refurbishments, production offcuts from window and door fabricators, new-build projects and renovations. Also from aluminium workshops with surplus production.

02

Industrial processing

Contaminants are removed by hand (screws and fixings, hinges, plastic thermal breaks, internal wiring). Sorting by alloy where the material calls for it. Optional baling for export or for direct delivery to a foundry.

03

Quality control

Visual check of purity and absence of contaminants. Spectrometer analysis where exact alloy certification is required. Weighing on a trade-approved weighbridge, with a ticket for every transaction.

Industrial applications

Where it’s used.

/ 01

Secondary aluminium remelting

Remelters producing secondary ingot for re-extrusion or casting. Clean extrusions need less alloy correction.

/ 02

Direct re-extrusion

Where purity is very high, the material can be re-extruded into new sections: the most circular way to recover its value.

/ 03

Lightweight structural components

Automotive, transport and modular construction: applications that call for a good strength-to-weight ratio.

FAQs

What people ask us most.

Because the material goes back into the production cycle efficiently, reducing the need for primary aluminium and cutting environmental impact: recycling aluminium takes only 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminium.

Yes, we separate the thermal break from the metal section during processing. The plastic affects the final price, but the material is not rejected: we remove it in our process.

The glass is removed at source or when the windows arrive at our site, before the extrusions are processed. If there is a significant volume, we arrange for the glass to be collected separately by a specialist waste management company.

Extrusions are extruded architectural aluminium (windows, façades); UBC is used drinks cans. They are different alloys for different applications in secondary remelting: extrusions are usually valued for their cleanliness and UBC for the closed can-to-can loop.

Yes, we coordinate building strip-outs and renovations with significant volumes of architectural aluminium. We provide dedicated logistics and a work plan tailored to the site.
