ISRI Zorba

Zorba

Zorba is a mix rich in aluminium and other non-ferrous metals. It comes out of an advanced recycling process and is key to using resources efficiently in the metals industry. Zorba is the name of this grade in the ISRI specifications, the international reference for scrap grades.

What it is

Definition and industrial context.

It comes out of post-shredder separation: it is mostly aluminium, but with copper, brass, zinc and lead. That is why it is not aluminium; it is Zorba. The same process produces Twitch, which takes the separation of Zorba one step further, and Zurik.

From incoming material to processed grade.

01

Where the material comes from

Complex scrap, end-of-life vehicles and WEEE, which first go through our 4,000 hp shredder.

02

Industrial processing

The post-shredder plant takes in all the non-ferrous material, separates it by size and sorts it on lines using eddy current separation, induction sorting, X-ray sorting and colour sorting. This is where we produce Zorba, Zurik and aluminium for secondary remelting.
